Christmas Lights in Tavistock

A privileged view from above in Tavistock allowed me to capture the town on a damp but festive evening.  Such a great town.

Official Visitor Guide to Dartmoor National Park is Launched!

Today sees the launch of my second book, "Dartmoor - A Timeless Landscape" which is Dartmoor National Park's official visitor guide.

This is a pictorial taster menu for what Dartmoor can offer the visitor.  It is stuffed full of colour photographs showing Dartmoor in all its glory.  It was wonderful getting back out on the moor with my camera again; I will share a couple of new shots with you below.

The book is available from the DNP Visitor Centres, Amazon and on the Dartmoor-Tors.co.uk website.

Does this make me an author now?!

A Different View of Dartmoor

Sometimes Dartmoor gives up a scene this is quite different to its architype.  Like this image of farmland near Dartmoor Prison at Princetown.  No tors, no rugged beauty; just a big open landscape of contrast.  Nice.

From Tavistock to Norway - Polar Training

Something's changed.  Adventure now seems to have a capital A in my life.  Bi-product #6 is need to do some polar exploring.  So, February saw me in the mountains of Norway on a Polar Expedition Training week.  Cross-country skiing, pulling pulls, camping in very low temperatures.

We were gifted about 1 metre of snow whilst doing it which caused some issues, but never having enough of the white stuff meant that was fine by me.

More more more.  Svalbard next hopefully.

The Mighty Yosemite - A Photographer's Dream

Visceral.  Walking in Yosemite Valley and on the High Sierra was almost painful, the need and urge to photograph everything was almost overwhelming.  There is no place quite like it and I am totally bewitched by it.

Hugh white granite cliffs tower over the deep valley that was deeply carved by glaciers.  The granite peels off in layers and tumbles down to the valley floor amid the glacial erratics left by the ghost of the river glaciers.

It is cold and bright; the trees smell of candy and incense and the leaves of the hardwoods glow in the sun.  Trees and rocks, trees and rocks.  I love it.
