Sometimes Dartmoor gives up a scene this is quite different to its architype. Like this image of farmland near Dartmoor Prison at Princetown. No tors, no rugged beauty; just a big open landscape of contrast. Nice.

From Tavistock to Norway - Polar Training
Something's changed. Adventure now seems to have a capital A in my life. Bi-product #6 is need to do some polar exploring. So, February saw me in the mountains of Norway on a Polar Expedition Training week. Cross-country skiing, pulling pulls, camping in very low temperatures.
We were gifted about 1 metre of snow whilst doing it which caused some issues, but never having enough of the white stuff meant that was fine by me.
More more more. Svalbard next hopefully.

The Mighty Yosemite - A Photographer's Dream
Visceral. Walking in Yosemite Valley and on the High Sierra was almost painful, the need and urge to photograph everything was almost overwhelming. There is no place quite like it and I am totally bewitched by it.
Hugh white granite cliffs tower over the deep valley that was deeply carved by glaciers. The granite peels off in layers and tumbles down to the valley floor amid the glacial erratics left by the ghost of the river glaciers.
It is cold and bright; the trees smell of candy and incense and the leaves of the hardwoods glow in the sun. Trees and rocks, trees and rocks. I love it.

Brecon Beacons Snowstorm
Decided to try out another moorland in Wales. Brecon Beacons in November are beautiful; sharp, constrasty and beckoning.

THE DARTMOOR TORS COMPENDIUM IS LAUNCHED!
On Saturday 29th July 2017 the Dartmoor Tors Compendium book was launched at the Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centre in Princetown as part of their Summer Fair. The day was a great success and I am so grateful to all those who came to the launch and helped me achieve the book.
The book is 334 pages long with 718 photographs, most of which are black and white.
You can have a look at a sample here.
You can also buy the book online here.
Next project is an exhibition of photographs at the Visitor Centre in Princetown at the end of August 2017.

Belstone Tors, Higher Tor and the Taw
A beautiful day to mooch around the northern tors after a week of rain. Belstone is really majestic and the views north across Mid-Devon's farmland tapestry are truly spectacular. Higher Tor showed me a new profile which I'd never appreciated before, and I found an abandoned granite trough I'd not noticed previously on Belstone.
Also, I will have some news later this week about my book, Dartmoor Tors Compendium. See www.dartmoor-tors.co.uk for more details.
